5 Must See Places While in Paris

Paris, the city of both love and romance, is one of the most popular vacation destinations, even amongst those who are not traveling with a significant other. You can walk for miles in Paris and not even make a dent in the number of attractions that must be seen and experienced. Add in all the little cafés, pastry shops, and restaurants, and there is no way you can dine at them all, let alone a fraction of them, before you return home.

I am sharing this, because I do not want you to think that you can see everything that Paris has to offer in only one trip. It will take multiple trips to see this spectacular destination. However, I know exactly where you should start your journey….

5 Must-See Places While in Paris

1. Montmartre

Montmartre is one of the most iconic districts within Paris and it is a must-see, especially if you love anything artistic. You can wander through any number of the museums before stopping at Moulin Rouge. However, do not forget to stop at the Wall of Love, or Le Mur des Je t’aimes. It is there that you will see the words, “I love you”, written three hundred eleven times in two hundred and fifty different languages.

2. The Louvre

The Louvre used to be a royal residence, but since 1793, it has served as the largest museum in the entire world. You must plan your time at this museum very carefully, because there is no way that you can see the thirty thousand plus works of art in only one day. I recommend looking at the map and having a plan of which exhibits you want to see and which ones you want to skip. The Mona Lisa should be at the top of your list but be prepared for the long line and the fact that your time in front of this masterpiece is short.

3. Arc de Triomphe

Extraordinary views of Paris can be seen from the top of the Arc de Triomphe, but it is best to focus your attention on the Champs-Elysées below. This massive arch has been in place since Napoleon Bonaparte had it constructed in 1806. Spend a little time under the arch as well, because this is where you will see the names of those generals who fought in battle. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier can also be found there, and the flame is rekindled every night.

4. Cathedral of Notre Dame

The Cathedral of Notre Dame is a stunning work of art and while you must see this attraction when you are in Paris, you must realize that currently, it is not the same. The reason for this is there was a fire at the cathedral last year and extensive work needs to be completed to get this building back to its original glory.

5. The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was only supposed to be standing for a short amount of time, but its popularity has caused it to stay in place since 1889. You must venture to the top of the tower, because this is where you can see gorgeous views of the entire city. It doesn’t matter when you go to the top, but most people say that it is best when it is dark, and the city is lit up. If you want the truly best experience, book a table at one of the many restaurants at the Eiffel Tower and dine with a view. Please note that you must make your reservation months in advance!
