Tips for Traveling with Kids- From Toddlers to Teens

From toddlers to teenagers, traveling with kids is definitely no vacation when you’re not properly prepared. Here are a few helpful tips and tricks we’ve gathered for a worry-free family vacation.

Oh, baby!

It may come as a surprise, but babies are usually the easiest to travel with. As long as an infant is held to a similar eating and sleeping schedule, you can take them anywhere and keep them happy. Earlier flights are usually less crowded and, depending on your destination, can get you there in time for a nap. Just like adults, babies also need time to stretch their legs and get some fresh air. Let them walk (or crawl) every now and then. Don’t forget to pack that baby bag with all their favorite toys, pacifiers and blankets.

P.S. Using Curbside Check-In when you’re traveling with all that extra luggage like strollers, car seats, and diaper bags will be a lifesaver.

Terrible Two, Threes, Fours…

We’ve heard it all before. Toddlers are no playground, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get to play. When it comes to little ones, find time to let them run around and release all their pent-up energy after long days of family travel. Plenty of hotels will have playgrounds or pools for this exact reason.

Pro Tip: Even if your toddler has conquered the daunting task of potty training, Pull-Ups might be a good alternative for family travel. It will save you time and reduce the risk of possible in-seat accidents.

A Teenage Dream

The best way to avoid those oh-so-familiar teenage emotions (We’ve all been there) is to allow them to make decisions with the itinerary. Let them choose an attraction or two they’re interested in. Understand what your teenager likes and dislikes. The biggest thing that comes to teenagers is compromise. Oh, and don’t be so strict on their screen time. (It is their vacation too!)

Hit that snooze alarm. Teenagers are notorious for sleeping in way past what we see as necessary, but it’s true they do need more sleep than adults in general. It doesn’t mean let them sleep in till noon, but a nice power nap between activities can’t hurt anyone. No one wants to deal with cranky teenagers.

Pro Tip: Feed. Them. Well. (Or face the consequences…)

Although there may be a few temper tantrums, unpredictable schedules, and angsty teenagers, we hope these tips ease your anxiety when it comes to future family travel. After all, what’s an adventure without a few unexpected turns?
